KUCHING: Two good friends were sentenced to six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday for disposing of stolen property.
The accused Syah Rizmanie Iswandi, 27 and Asadur Rahman, 30 pleaded guilty to the charge which was read together by an interpreter in front of Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
They were accused of disposing of a stolen property, namely a Modenas Kriss motorcycle belonging to one Mohd Idzhar Shafiee, 36, at a workshop in Kampung Segedup Rimba, Jalan Batu Kawa, at 2.50 pm on March 15.
Both were charged with the offence under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of not less than six months and not more than seven years. They are also liable to be fined, if convicted.
According to the facts of the case, the complainant found his motorcycle missing when it was parked in a car park in the Aeon Corner in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.
He then lodged a police report for further action.
The complainant’s loss is estimated to be approximately RM2,500.
Following the directions given by the first accused (Syah Rizmanie), a police team went to a workshop in Kampung Segedup Rimba to meet a man at 2.50pm on March 15.
The inspection found several motorcycle components that had been dismantled along with a Modenas Kriss motorcycle frame which was believed to belong to the complainant.
The case items were seized, and the two suspects were taken into custody to be investigated further.
Further investigation revealed that both suspects were aware that the case goods were stolen and had cooperated in their concealment.
Prosecuting for the case was Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while both accused were not represented.
