KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a jobless man to seven months in jail for possessing 0.16g of methamphetamine.
Mohamad Nasrullah Mohamad Ardzuna, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
Upon conviction, it carries a fine up to RM100,000 or imprisonment for a term of up to five years or both.
Nasrullah committed the offence at a house near Jalan Kampung Tabuan Melayu here, around 1.15 pm on Oct 14.
According to the facts of the case, a police patrol team was conducting ‘Op Bersepadu Lejang Khas’ in the area and arrested Mohamad Nasrullah, who was sitting by a house as he was suspected of being involved in drug-related activities.
While trying to arrest him, the police saw him throwing an item by the side of the house.
The police recovered and confiscated the item, which turned out to be a small plastic packet containing crystal pieces.
Results from the Chemistry Department confirmed that the item was methamphetamine weighing 0.16g.
Insp Ammarsofi Yusoff prosecuted the case while Nasrullah was unrepresented by a counsel.
