SARIKEI: A traffic light will be installed at the junction leading to Jakar town as a short-term solution to address the concerns of people in the area, said Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

The Deputy Premier said that the public have complained that vehicles can only access the town via one road, while vehicles coming from the opposite direction (Jalan Merudu/Meruton and Bayong) have to make a ‘P-Turn,’ which is quite a distance away, before entering the town.

“According to the public complaints voiced by Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, the P-Turn is about 5 km away from the town.

“So, we have discussed this issue with the Public Works Department (PWD), and we will install a traffic light here within this year,” he said at a press conference today (August 9).

However, Uggah, who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, did not disclose further details on the cost of the project.

“This is only a short-term solution for the issue. We are indeed planning for a long-term solution, which involves building a flyover in the area, but this requires extensive planning,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo and Sarawak PWD director Dr Cassidy Morris.
