KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) carried out 13 road improvement projects worth RM902,700.36 and 20 drain improvement projects worth RM4,623,707.40 in Jalan Arang without fail since 2016, says Lo Khere Chiang.

The MPP chairman said this in response to statements by Abdul Aziz Isa, the special assistant to Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

“All the projects carried out by MPP is without any input from Aziz. He talks as though the Arang Road residents need to thank him because he seems to be saying everything that was done by MPP for Arang Road was because of him.

“My question to Aziz is this; what have you done for Jalan Arang all these years, including the 22 months that your Pakatan Harapan was in power?”

Lo added that on infrastructure alone, from 2016 to 2021, MPP implemented 375 projects totalling RM82.8 million.

“RM15.2 mln for capital development projects, RM35.8 mln for Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects, and RM 31.8 mln for Projek Rakyat.

“We have close to 73,500 properties under our jurisdiction and 91 per cent of these are residential.

“All of these properties have roads waiting to be tarred, drains to be built, street lights to be installed and they needed to be maintained on a regular basis.”

Lo also mentioned that MPP would carry out maintenance works “as and when the condition of the infrastructure permits us to do so.”

“The residents in Arang Road who have benefitted from these improvements can attest to the fact that MPP has been carrying out its pledge since 2016 and we pledge to continue to do so without fail.”

He stressed that throughout the years, MPP had been doing its best to help the people in its jurisdiction.

“My staff under me have gone above and beyond and worked extremely hard to serve the community. I welcome and am thankful for genuine residents’ complaints alerting me and MPP of issues at hand.

“Other than him hurling insults and attacks, I cannot see what Aziz has accomplished or has done from 2016 to 2021.”

Lo hoped that the public would not be swayed by misleading information claiming that MPP had neglected the Jalan Arang area.
