BINTULU: The Mile 11 Prison at Jalan Bintulu-Miri here is placed on lockdown after one of its wardens was confirmed positive for Covid-19.

Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the Bintulu Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC)  also issued quarantine orders to the wardens and the prisoners.

“The prison was locked down to enable active case detection (ACD) to be carried out which involved about 700 people including the wardens, their families and prisoners.

“They will undergo a Covid-19 swab tests and their movements will be restricted for 14 days,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China added that some wardens and prisoners were quarantined in the prison area while others and their families are quarantined at Muhibah Stadium.

Tiong stressed that the Bintulu Division Disaster Management Committee including the Bintulu Health Office takes the confirmed cases seriously and is closely watching the Covid-19 pandemic in the division.

“Therefore, the implementation of strict enforcement and control is inevitable. We will not take lightly the fight against the spread of this pandemic to reduce the level of infection in the shortest possible time,” he said.

He also hoped that all parties would give their highest cooperation so that efforts to combat the spread of Covid-19 could be done more effectively.
