When contacted, Wiwit said it was a day of joy for the family, who hails from Stakan, as they shared the happiness of the Merdeka Day celebration with their counterparts in Semenanjung Malaysia.

“We are wearing the costumes because we feel proud to be part of this peaceful and harmonious country, Malaysia, and of being Malaysians,” she said.

Asked who made the costumes, Wiwit said she sewed them herself.  “It cost me about RM75 to complete the three pieces of costumes,” she added.  Lim added even their car was decorated with the Merdeka theme.
