KAPIT: Eleven local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) including clubs and associations have received a total RM103,000 for minor rural projects (MRP) from Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat during a function held at a hotel here yesterday morning.

The funds were received by Jeffery Ngkarong for Kelab Gimnasium Rakyat Kapit, Sng Ching Kung for Kelab Sukan Rekreasi 7D, Jason Jarraw (SDNU Menoa Kapit), Betty Wong (Sarawak Teachers’ Union Kapit), Ustaz Saiful (Tabung Kebajikan Staf PPD Kapit), John Rimbar (PIBG SK Kapit), John Lang (Lembaga Pengurus Sekolah SRB Sungai Amang), Jarit Jarmit (PIBG SMK Selirik), Jacob Baleng (Gereja Methodist Iban Pasar Kapit), Jawan Tumba (Kelab Landas Kapit) and John Rimbar (Majlis Guru Besar Kapit).

Before handing out the funds, Jamit drew the attention of the recipients to the fact that the money was from the GPS state government to enable them to carry out their activities for the year.

“Tell your members that you have received the grant. And for the sake of proper filing and record purposes, please compile reports on how the money is spent.

“When the government has allocated a fund that you asked for, do implement activities that involve the majority of your members.”

Concerning the development of this town and division, he said that he welcomed constructive proposals and ideas on how best to do it.

“I am always ready to listen. As an assemblyman, it is my duty to develop my constituency,” he said.

“That’s why I am always around here attending functions organised by NGOs and government agencies.

“I often inspect completed or ongoing government projects. Through interactions with the grassroots, I often receive feedback.

“When I propose and approve projects, all are according to priorities based on requests.”

He then expressed his gratitude to the state government for providing funds for projects in his constituency, and now that Kapit town is connected by a road to the rest of Sarawak, the next step is to develop the areas across the Rajang River (the west bank) opposite the town.
