KUCHING: Fourteen students from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) landed here yesterday (Sept 1) for the five-day ‘Program Kembara Ilmu Inap Desa TUFS 2022’.

New Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak chief executive officer Dr Jeniri Amir and Suara Sarawak executive editor Rohana Wahed, the programme coordinator, were among those who welcomed them at the Kuching International Airport.

Accompanying the Japanese students is Faridah Mohamed, visiting lecturer at Tokyo University for Foreign Studies.

The students, known as ‘Anak Samurai’, will participate in various activities which include a visit to the Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM), Kuching Waterfront and the Malay villages in Santubong and Kota Samarahan. They will also spend some time visiting the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV).

According to Rohana, the students will be given the opportunity to witness a hadrah performance, thus exposing them to Sarawak’s unique art and culture.

The students will also be staying at a Malay homestay in Santubong tomorrow (Sept 3), which gives them an insight into the way of life of the Malays here. They will be required to wear a traditional Malay attire.
