KUCHING: The Kembara Merdeka Keluarga Malaysia 2022 (KMKM2022) convoy started its tour throughout Sarawak to celebrate the National Month.

State Information Department (JaPen) director Jaafar Jantan said the convoy will travel across 33 districts with a journey of approximately 4,025 km from Telok Melano to Lawas.

He added that, throughout the journey, JaPen will visit 37 locations to organise programmes during the National Month and will return to Betong on Aug 31 for the state level National Month celebration.

“JaPen will have various programmes in line with the objective to foster and invigorate the spirit of patriotism and love for the country, and to fly the Jalur Gemilang flags.

“Our national flag is a symbol of patriotism for every Malaysian citizen and instills the spirit of solidarity among us.

“We hope that everyone will wave and fly our Jalur Gemilang with the feeling of pride and respect,” said Jaafar.

He said this during the launching ceremony of the State Level National Month and the Flying the Jalur Gemilang 2022 programme today at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex.

He added the theme of the National Month celebration ‘Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama’ is compatible with the concept of harmony here, as a big and inclusive family, highlighting the value of togetherness and gratitude.

“These are the values that binds people together regardless of ethnicity, religions, culture, languages and so on in Sarawak and Malaysia in general,” he said.

Among the programmes organised by the department this month are Merdeka@Komuniti/Mederka@Parlimen programme, Semarak Gemilang programme, Infiesta Pentarama Sarawak and distribution of the Jalur Gemilang to Keluarga Malaysia Community (KKM) and selected schools.

Apart from that, JaPen also organised an online competition to instill love for the country, especially among the youth and students.

“Competitions like Pertandingan Klik@Merdeka, Pertandingan Bintang Patriotik, ILHAM Merdeka Tik Tok Challenge, Program Pengisahan Kenegaraan and Sayembara Sajak Merdeka.

“Youth and students who are interested to participant in these competitions can browse the Merdeka 360 portal at http://merdeka360.my/web/,” Jaafar added.
