SARIKEI: The Night Run, organised by the Junior Chamber International (JCI), is one of their efforts to bring the Sarikei community towards a healthier and more active lifestyle.
Sarikei Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii pointed out that the event highlights the benefits and importance of running for people’s health.
“Following Global Running Day’s theme this year, ‘Embracing the Joy of Running’, the event tonight serves as a platform to promote the joy and benefits of running.
“I hope that the event will further encourage Sarikei people to continue running and exercising.” It will do us good. With exercise, it will improve our health, give us energy, and reduce our stress,” he said when officiating the run at Dewan Suarah Sarikei here yesterday (June 10).
Elaborating, he added that the event also brings together people from different religions, cultures, and races to celebrate running.
“This is the intention of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg — we are united as one community.
“All participants can share their experiences through this sports activity, which will increase motivation among all and hopefully inspire those who have not yet run like me to take up the running activity,” he said.
Huang, in the meantime, commended JCI for the success of the event.
