MUKAH: Just like previous festive seasons pre-pandemic, the Batang Igan ferry point is once again full of travellers, causing congestion.

Many are returning to their hometowns either to break fast with their families or are going back for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, who is also the Jemoreng assemblyman, said he had made a request to Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas to increase the number of ferries to overcome this problem.

“I have written a letter to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas on April 18 to request for three additional ferries to be added to the Igan ferry service, running simultaneously from early morning until 1am as soon as possible until a week after Hari Raya.”

He told the media this during a working visit to the Batang Igan ferry point and Kampung Igan on Monday (April 25).

He also advised all ferry users to be extra careful and always prioritise safety. “Follow the instructions of the ferry staff and be patient.”
