Jerip pledges RM500,000 for BAK culture centre

KUCHING: Assistant Transportation Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil has pledged a RM500,000 allocation for phase one of the Biperoh Association Kuching (BAK) culture centre.

The Mambong assemblyman made the pledge in his speech when officiating at the Biperoh Pasar Tamu at Kampung Garung, Borneo Heights Road here yesterday.

He said more funds would be given when the construction work progressed to another phase.

Jerip reminded the association to make full use of the centre for its activities for the benefit of its members and to look after it well.

On the weekend bazaar, Jerip said it would be a place for the community to sell their products as well as farm and husbandry produce.

“The Biperoh community now can do business. And some of them are already successful businessmen,” he added.

He urged the Biperoh leaders and professionals to team up in planning socio economic activities which could generate incomes for the community.

‌He said some RM200,000 would also be allocated to the other Bidayuh associations in his constituency for them to start their “pasar tani” (farmers’ markets).

The other Bidayuh associations are the Biannah, Braang, Bisitang and the Penyewa and Sentah Associations.

‌‌”We want the Penrissen to be included as a food producing area,” said Jerip.

Meanwhile, BAK’s president Mangan Ngandok said the launching of the Biperoh Pasar Tamu yesterday was the first of many activities planned by the association for its members.

He called on the Biperoh community to support all the activities organised by the association.

He also thanked Jerip for his continuous support to the association.

In conjunction with the launching of the Biperoh weekend market, besides the setting up of sales booths, various activities being held include live band performances, karaoke sessions and a lucky draw.
