KUCHING: Sarawak now has a new Covid-19 cluster identified as Jeti Cluster following two positive cases reported in the state involving Jeti Kapal Perikanan (Fishing Boat Jetty) in Pending here.
According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the first case is Case 584 which was reported on July 15 involving a foreign man from Indonesia working as a fisherman in a fishing vessel.
He was reported to have undergone screening in a local hospital in Kuching on that day and his result returned positive the same day.
“The second case — Case 603 — involved also an Indonesian man who was working in the same company with Case 584.
“He was screened on Saturday (July 18) at Klinik Tanah Puteh in Pending. The result came back positive the same day,” SDMC said in a statement on Sunday (July 19).
It further revealed that a total of 65 close contacts to the Jeti cluster had been identified.
“Of these, 25 had been screened and two were found positive while 23 were negative.
“The remaining 21 have yet to undergo swab tests as they are currently at sea,” SDMC elaborated.
In another development, it informed that the Ministry of Health (MOH) declared that the Kidurong Cluster ended on Sunday (July 19).
The last positive case involving the cluster was reported on July 6.
“A total of 230 close contacts involving family members, work colleagues and social contacts were screened. Of these, eight or 3.48 percent were found positive.
“The cluster has now ended after 28 days with no new case reported,” SDMC explained.
Six earlier active clusters are Construction Site Cluster, Engineering Company Cluster, Mambong Cluster, Medical Centre Cluster, Jupiter Cluster and Stutong Market Cluster.
