MUKAH: The Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) is as relevant as before despite an attempt by the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to sideline it by planning to introduce a rebranded version of it.
However, before the planned Federal Development and Security Council (MPKP) ever materialised here, it disappeared along with the collapse of PH regime in February this year, after only 22 months in power.
Mukah division Resident Hamdiah Bakir said the role of JKKK basically was to assist the district and resident offices in their administration of areas at grass-root level.
“JKKK are also the eyes and ears of the government, and help in developing their respective areas,” she said in her welcoming speech at the close of Mukah district-level Community Policing Empowerment workshop at the New Mukah Administrative Centre here on Thursday.
Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo afficiated at the close of the one-day event, which was organised by Mukah district office, and attended by 160 participants.
Hamdiah hoped that after the workshop, JKKK would be more knowledgeable and matured, and be able to function effectively in tandem with the current needs.
She also hoped that with a combination of ideas from new members and experiences from senior members, JKKK would strive to perform better service and become relevant to the society and government.
The Resident added if anyone in the community desired to serve and give back to the community, JKKK was a good platform to do so.
