KUCHING: Newly appointed Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) members have been urged to foster unity and safeguard the community against bad influences.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the JKKK members have a role to play and ensure there is no division among the people which could threaten the stability of the state and the nation.

“One of the main tasks of village committees is to establish close relations and unity among our multi-racial and multi-religious communities.

“Besides that, the role includes helping the Sarawak government to spread the policies and development that have been brought and will be implemented in the state,” he said.

He said this after witnessing the handing over of certificates of appointment to JKKK members for the term 2024 to 2025 by Kuching District Officer Sofhi Jebal at the Kuching District Office here recently.

Yap said members of JKKK should report problems, complaints, and appeals from residents to the relevant authorities.
