KUCHING: A total of 5,976 Village Development and Security CommitteeS (JKKKs) statewide are expected to receive a grant of RM5,000 each.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), Datuk Rubiah Wang said that the grants would be distributed by the ministry.

“The timeline for the distribution has yet to be determined. However, it will be carried out in the near future,” she said.

She told reporters this after attending the ‘Santai Media’ programme at Cafe Cafe @ The Original Car Wash here today (Jan 28).

Before the distribution of the grants, Rubiah said there was a need to identify the status of each JKKK first as some of them might not be valid anymore.

“So, this is our first step to ensure the JKKKs in all states, including Sarawak, are still active.

“Then, we will allocate these grants to the JKKKs once verification work is completed,” she said.

She added the Sarawak government would provide a list of JKKKs according to the guidelines set before handing it to the ministry.

“The ministry will then approve the relevant applications because the process is not automatic,” she said.

Rubiah added the budget approved this year would only be given to registered JKKKs.

“So, if there are new JKKKs that want to register, they need to go through the state government first, then submit their applications to the ministry, and we (the ministry) will include the applications in next year’s budget,” she explained.

Meanwhile, a sum of RM500 million has been allocated to the 2024 National Budget to activate all registered JKKKs under KKDW.

With an allocation of RM5,000 to each JKKK, this initiative aims to ensure that efforts to continue development programmes in their respective areas can be implemented more effectively.
