SIBU: The Public Works Department (JKR) will be asked to speed up the construction of a road linking Ngemah in Kanowit to Termalak in Song if the weather is favourable. Kanowit PKR Division chairman George Chen at a press conference yesterday said he had received requests from the people for speedier construction of the road.

“If the weather is good, we will push for JKR to speed it up so that it can be completed ahead of schedule next August,” he said, also reminding the people to be patient. Chen said a 9km-long portion of the road had not yet been tar-sealed, leaving the people with no choice but to use the oil palm plantation road which takes them an hour to reach Song. He added that a 200m-long stretch of road is still under forest. “The road is not accessible. If it rains, it will be very slippery which can cause inconvenience to the people,” he said.
