KUCHING: It was believed that the Public Works Department (JKR) held a meeting yesterday to discuss issues related to the new underpass at the Datuk Temenggong Abang Kipali Abang Akip Interchange at Petra Jaya.

The meeting was believed to have been attended by JKR Assistant Directors, Kuching divisional engineers as well as Southern Region Manager, Ir. Vincent Tang.

When contacted and asked about what was discussed in the meeting, Ir. Tang through an SMS, replied, “Just a discussion. Any views had to be from the Ministry. Thanks.”

The RM67 million project, which included the upgrading of the Datuk Temenggong Abang Kipali Abang Akip’s roundabout into an interchange, was opened to the public on June 14, a day before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

However, since its opening, there have been a lot of complaints from the public in the social media concerning the height of the new underpass, which is too shallow and only restricted to vehicles with height of 2.2 metres and below.
