KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. James Jemut Masing had instructed the Public Works Department (PWD or JKR) to do the necessary repair on the upgrading of the Menjawa/ Belaga Road.
Yesterday Masing had a meeting with relevant departments and agencies on the government proposed upgrading of the said road soonest by utilising the RM50 million given by the Chief Minister recently.
“If this amount is not enough; we will ask for more to complete the repair,” he added. According to him, the first phase is to improve the first 17 km from Bakun junction to Belaga town. Then JKR will proceed till they reach Belaga town. This will include raising the bridge height by one metre to prevent it from being damaged by log jam as it was during last Christmas. “The section of the road was affected by landslide will be made good by CMS.
The money has been allocated for this purpose. The works are currently in progress. “This an excellent example that this government and SEB really care for the people and realise their past errors, and not just serving the industries and urban population who are currently being served by power from Bakun and Murum.
“In the first place, it was a mistake not to link Belaga town to Bakun HEP/ road when Bakun HEP was constructed but the state government and SEB are making amends. That is good,” he said.
