KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced two jobless men to six months in prison each for abusing methamphetamine and amphetamine drugs.
Aliff, 24, and Lukmanhakiem, 25, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to charges framed under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15 of the same Act.
If convicted, they could face penalties of up to RM5,000 in fines or up to two years in prison.
Aliff tested positive for drugs while being detained at the Kuching Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) office at around 1.55 pm on May 6.
Whereas, Lukmanhakiem also tested positive for drugs while he was detained at the same office at 2.25 pm on March 6.
According to the case facts, narcotics police have arrested the men in separate incidents on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse activities.
Preliminary urine screening tests found them to be positive for drugs.
The Pathology Department’s urine sample report further verified that Aliff and Lukmanhakiem tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
ASP Arman Ibrahim, who prosecuted the case, requested that the court impose heavy sentences on the two men as a deterrent.
