Jobless man arrested for allegedly abusing wife

MIRI: A jobless man was detained by police at a house in Kampung Lereng Bukit off Jalan Miri-Pujut here on Thursday night for allegedly abusing his wife.

Miri Police chief, ACP Khoo Leng Huat said the 53-year-old man was picked up at 10.30pm after he was said to have causing hurt on his 48-year-old wife at their home at around 9.00am the day before.

He said the victim, aged 48, was in the living room when her husband suddenly slapped her and choked her.

“At the time of the incident, the victim ran into a room, but her husband followed and choked her from behind, causing her head to knock on a chair,” he said in a statement here.

Khoo said the victim received treatment at Miri Hospital and the suspect was being remanded for three days to facilitate investigations under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18(a) of the Domestic Violence Act, 1994.
