Jobless man busted with stash of weapons

KUCHING: A 30-year-old jobless man, Richard Lau from Sibu, was fined RM500 in default of one month’s jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for illegal possession of over 50 scheduled weapons.
Lau pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi to a charge under Section 37(1) of the Small Offenses Ordinance 1958.
The seized weapons included 16 guandao swords, four long sickles, two meat cleavers, four long iron sticks, five pairs of gloves, 29 machetes, seven short sickles, and two axes.
The incident occurred at a house in Tabuan Laru on September 17 at 1.25 am.
Police raided the house and arrested Lau in the living room.
A subsequent search uncovered the weapons hidden under a staircase.
Investigations revealed that Lau had illegally obtained the weapons.
ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case, while Lau was represented by counsel Ralph Lee.
