SIBU: A jobless man who allegedly snatched a woman’s handbag thought he could get away easily.

But he was wrong when the woman alerted members of the public with her loud shout. Several people gave chase and they managed to apprehend him.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said at 9.30am on Wednesday, the 38year-old victim was at a pharmacy in Jalan Sentral when the man appeared.

“All of a sudden, the suspect snatched her handbag and ran away. The woman shouted out loud for help. Members of the public who heard this, went after the suspect,” he added.

The suspect, however, tripped and fell on the road. His chasers swooped on him like a pack of wolves.

Jonathan said that the public handed the suspect over to the police who passed by the area. The suspect had been remanded for investigation under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery.
