MIRI: Miri Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Division on Sunday nabbed a jobless man for possession of drugs.
During the 2.30pm raid at a budget hotel at Centre Point Commercial Centre phase 1 here, the team also found and seized six transparent plastic packets believed to be methamphetamine (syabu) weighing 7.16 grams from the 39-year-old suspect.
The seized drugs were worth about RM1,300.
“Checks on the room found a leather bag containing the packets (six packets) suspected to be methamphetamine (syabu),” said Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah in a press statement released yesterday.
A urine test conducted on the suspect found traces of drugs, he added.
The suspect has been remanded for three days to assist police investigation, he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1) (a) of the same act.
During the raid, police also nabbed a buyer who coincidentally walked up to the room that day, unaware of the police’s presence.
A packet of drug weighing 0.03 gram was discovered inside his sling bag.
He, too, was later arrested under Section 12 of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and brought to Miri Central Police Station (CPS).
He has been remanded for two days for questioning.
