KUCHING: A jobless man was released on RM5,000 bail with one surety after he allegedly threatened to splash hot water on his mother and burn down the family home following an argument.

No plea was recorded from Mohd Rezuan Halim, 29, and magistrate Sharifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered the accused to be released on bail pending the next mention on Dec 1.

Mohd Rezuan allegedly threatened his mother Sharifah Julieta Wan Deraman at about 9.30am at their Kampung Pinggan home near Pending here on Nov 2.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, an offence, if convicted, carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison or a fine or both.

The mother lodged a police report following the incident, which had also happened several times prior to the Nov 2 one, due to the accused’s bad temper.

According to the mother, arguments between them usually occurred when her husband and other children were not home.
