Jobless man pleads guilty to drug charge

KUCHING: An unemployed man was fined RM3,300 or three months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today after being found in possession of 0.74 grams of Methamphetamine last June.

The accused, Mohd Hafizi Saini, 30, pleaded guilty to the charge read in the presence of Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and faces penalties as outlined in Section 12(3) of the same act.

The accused was found in possession of the illegal substance in a house at Jalan Matang on June 4.

If convicted, he could face a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to five years.

According to case details, the police detained a man in a house in Matang suspected of drug-related activities.

A physical check revealed a plastic packet containing crystal-like substances, believed to be Methamphetamine, on the dining table of the accused’s residence.

These samples were sent to the Department of Chemistry Malaysia for analysis and the report confirmed the Methamphetamine weighing 0.74 grams.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin conducted the prosecution, while Saini chose not represented by a lawyer.
