KUCHING: A new barber shop called Joe’s Barber East Side is now open for business at Metrocity in Matang.
Tupong assemblyman Fazruddin Abdullah Rahman officiated at the opening on Sunday when the attending crowd was treated to an appearance by Joe Flizzow, an influential national hip-hop figure, who flew in to entertain his fans with superb rendition of his hit songs from “Havoc” to “Apa Khabar”.
In welcoming the new business, Fazruddin said he was convinced that Joe’s Barber East Side could help to spur the local economy.
“I thank Joe Flizzow for supporting our efforts to encourage local youth business ventures. This would create more opportunities to find local talents and attract the public to participate in our youth night market here in Metrocity,” he said to reporters.
He also urged young local enterprisers to utilise Metrocity youth night market and help youngsters who have talents and passion in building personal growth.
“Many people have big dreams, but they are simply too scared to take the first step. They are fearful because they feed on their own negative thoughts.
“Hence, I am convinced that Metrocity night market could enable self-starters to surround themselves with successful people, study their culture and ask for advice,” he said.
Initiated in 2014, the home-grown barbershop was founded by Joe Flizzow. Owned by young local businessmen, Mark Tan and Kirby Bujang, the shop now has 23 branches nationwide.
Open daily from 11am till 10pm the shop exudes a posh ambience of old school hip-hop culture.
Apart from affordable prices and good service, according to Mark, the shop also offers barber chairs for rent.
“We enable barbers to start their own shops by renting chairs from us on weekly or monthly basis. This method has proven to be a success, so much so that we have been able to open five more outlets throughout Malaysia,” he said.
Besides offering job opportunities to locals, Joe Flizzow expects to hold a concert sometime this coming July. He looks forward to showcase his event, “16 Baris” at the shop to enable local talents to show their skills.
