MIRI: A jogger was reportedly robbed by five unknown men on Friday (Dec 21) in Taman Bumiko.

According to sources, prior to the 6.30pm incident, the victim who was in his 20’s was jogging in the area with a friend when suddenly a car with the men approached them from behind.

It was said that the car rammed into the victim and one of the suspect was holding a machete.

After assaulting the victim, the suspects fled the scene with the victim’s gold necklace and a smartphone.

During the commotion, the victim’s friend ran away from the scene to seek help.

A police report on the incident has been lodged at Miri Central Police Station (CPS).

The city police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when contacted confirmed that they had received the report.

“The suspects were unmasked and they disposed the victim’s smartphone as they feared being tracked down by the police via the phone’s tracking system,” said Lim.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery and Section 397 of the Penal for robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurts.
