BETONG: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s 65 initiatives reflect his deep commitment to bring the state and its people to greater progress and prosperity.
The initiatives also amply demonstrate that Johari is a chief minister for all races everywhere in the state, according to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah (pic) here on Tuesday night.
“As such, as the leader of the state GPS government, he deserves every support from the people,” he said after receiving the GPS Flag Rally convoy at Panglima Rentap Hall.
Uggah said under Johari, GPS’ other core duty is to look after the state’s rights under MA63.
“We will restore the rights that had been eroded over time. This is not mere rhetoric. The promises will be translated into reality,” he said.
Uggah stressed that only leaders from local political parties know Sarawak problems intimately.
“They know how to solve the problems and they all want Sarawak to be an outstanding state by 2030,” he said.
“In GPS, we have a new political platform on which we strive together for our own interests, aspirations and agendas. And in Johari we have a very experienced, fair and visionary leader,” he said.
Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, added that the rural people could expect better and better future under Johari as one of his emphases is rural development.
“Now we have, besides the Sarawak Corridor Of Renewable Energy (SCORE), the Upper Rejang Development Authority (URDA), the Highland Development Authority (HDA)and the Northern Region Development Authority (NRDA).
“They will be the catalysts for the building of more roads, bridges, treated water and power supplies and suitable agricultural programmes to make the areas more accessible and progressive and for the people to earn more income,” Uggah said.
He said the state budget of RM11 billion this year would ensure that such and other development programmes could be implemented successfully.
“GPS will develop the state. I would like to reiterate here that the future for Sarawak is very bright,” he said.
“We are now in a new political chapter. GPS is a new hope for us. Let us all unite and rally strongly behind GPS to allow all our hopes to be realized.”
On the flag rally convoy of 57 participants from the four GPS component parties, he hoped it served its purpose of showing off its Kenyalang logo to all supporters statewide.
“The Kenyalang is going to be our symbol for the next state election expected to be held in 2021. All our supporters should be aware of this,” he said.
