KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg dreams of a “Smart Sarawak”, where everyone has an enhanced knowledge of ICT.
“We want to create a platform so that Sarawakians can play a part in the transformation programme of the country,” he said at the closing ceremony of the ‘Sarawak eCommerce Forum 2017’ at the Imperial Hotel here, yesterday.
On the state’s preparation for a digital economy, Johari added, “We need to upgrade our infrastructure which includes high-speed Internet to enable us to be connected with greater speed.
“We will even have the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) to regulate all aspects of the digital economy and also for cyber security,” he said. he Chief Minister also stressed the need to modernize sectors that had been using conventional methods for a long time, such as agriculture.
“We have local products that we can sell, such as fruits, through digital farming.” Meanwhile, Minister of International Trade and ECommerce, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said, “We must begin to nurture a different attitude and foster an environment that welcomes changes.
With the ever increasing demand of online transactions, more and more businesses are moving away from traditional brick and mortar stores and market places. In the digital realm, the entire world is our playground and we must transform our mindset and quickly create a different organisational culture and norms for our business. We must change and change we must, by opening our mental windows to see changes as opportunities,” said Wong.
