BEIJING: Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun  Openg  arrived here on Sunday evening for his first working visit overseas since his appointment as Chief Minister of Sarawak about two months ago. 

He was accompanied by his wife, Datin Amar Dato Hajah Juma’ani Tun Datuk Tuanku Haji Bujang, Second Finance Minister, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh,  State Secretary, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Morshidi Haji Abdul Ghani and their wives.

Yesterday morning, the Chief Minister witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and a Chinese international tourism development company, Beijing Glory International Culture Development Co. Ltd, at Nou Hotel here.

The MOU is for the purpose of further developing Sarawak’s tourism potentials and hospitality management. 

Among the areas covered in the MOU are:
1. China Express Airline will make Kuching its South East Asia Hub.
2. Beijing Glory will manage two SEDC hotels – Damai Puri and Grand Margherita in Kuching
3. Increasing the connectivity for China, Korean and Japanese tourist markets.
4. Management of some tourist spots such as Bako  and Mulu National Parks.
5.Rebranding of SEDC Sarawak Plaza.

The new Chairman of SEDC, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Aziz Hussain and the General Manager, Datu Haji Soedirman bin Aini signed the MOU on  behalf of SEDC.

Last night, the entourage flew to the city of Kunming as part of the itinerary of the week-long visit.

Thereafter, they will fly to Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

Also accompanying the Chief Minister are Assistant Minister for Local Government, Datu Penguang Manggil and senior officers of the Ministry of Tourism.,
