KUCHING: Johnny Tuk won the Bidayuh Song Chart Award (ACLB) 2022 Eighth Edition, grabbing a cash prize of RM5,000 as well as a trophy.
Singing a song entitled ‘Nampar Penguji’ composed by Rozzi Chilli at the final ACLB competition, Johnny also won the Best Vocal Award which earned him RM1,000 prize here on Saturday night (July 16).
Second place went to a Bidayuh band, Swaiv, with their song ‘Kajun Dawu’, winning a prize money of RM3,000 and a trophy.
Rozzie Mila, with her song ‘Cinta Asungku’, finished third for a RM2,000 cash prize as well as a trophy.
There were 12 finalists, comprising 10 solo singers and two bands, all of which were awarded RM1,000 and a trophy for their participation.
Besides that, another Bidayuh band, Acid Rain, with their song ‘Tihi Tigahang’ was voted ACLB’s Most Popular Artiste by the public through an online form.
Guest of honour, Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Willie Mongin, together with his wife Datin Chooi Ling, were present to officiate at the ACLB finals.
“This is the third time that I have been invited to officiate at ACLB and I am very glad to see that the competition is getting bigger,” said Willie.
“We are proud that our Bidayuh music industry is booming and evolving to fit in with current music styles.
“Change in the industry is important because this is the way our artistes get their income, through their creativity and music of various genres.
“Therefore, do support our local Bidayuh artistes, and to our artistes, keep up your good work, be aggressive and committed to improve your image and improve the Bidayuh music industry.”
Also present at the ACLB competition were Sarawak Broadcasting Department Director Nasrul Hakim Md Noh and his Deputy Director Norjihan Yahya.
