KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a Johorean man and an Indonesian woman to seven months and six months in prison respectively for possessing 0.09g of methamphetamine drugs.

Safiuddin, 30, and Lili, 20, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi to the charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.

Syarifah sentenced Safiuddin to seven months in prison, and Lili to six months in prison.

The pair was charged with possessing the prohibited substance in front of a laundry shop at Taman Duranda Emas around 12pm on May 20.

Based on the case facts, police stopped a sedan car for inspections in front of a self-service laundromat in Siburan, which led to the finding of a plastic packet containing crystal pieces on the passenger seat.

Both of them were later arrested for alleged involvement in substance abuse activities.

A chemist’s report dated July 11, 2024, confirmed the substance as 0.09g of methamphetamine.

Insp Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case, while Safiuddin and Lili were unrepresented by counsels.
