KUCHING: Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) will be holding its first Sarawak Digital Carnival on June 7 and 8.

The carnival will feature a variety of interesting programmes through both virtual and physical hybdrid platforms in conjunction with the Sarawak International Digital Economy Conference (IDECS) 2022.

Among the programmes that will be held are the Digital Carnival Symposium, Community Technical Outreach Program (CTOP), Basic Technology Android Application Development Workshop, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) Immersive Technology Workshop and Fiber Optic Cable Connection (Splicing).

CENTEXS chief executive officer, Syeed Mohd Hussein Wan Abdul Rahman said participants would have the opportunity to gain knowledge as well as receive direct guidance from external speakers and CENTEXS instructors who were experienced in the technology industry.

“The special thing about this digital carnival is that it will be divided into several activitites. Among those expected to be the focus of many is the Digital Carnival Symposium featuring CENTEXS and external speakers from industry players such as Huawei, Aeon Reality, Keysight Technologies, Bosch, Schlumberger, Microsoft, IBM and Petrosains.

“In addition, we will also hold a CENTEXS Open Day to give visitors the opportunity to see for themselves the technology available at CENTEXS for simultaneous learning purposes besides attracting the younger people who wish to join the programmes in the field of digital technology and technical skills.”

Syeed spoke at a press conference at CENTEXS Santubong yesterday (May 30).

He said Sarawakians had a lot of hidden talents and were creative but not exposed to the international level.

“For example, applications like Grab, Lazada and Shopee are all created by Malaysians. So why don’t Sarawakians produce applications like these as well?

“We at CENTEXS want our generation not only to be consumers of these applications but also creators of digital applications,” he added.

Syeed appealed to the public to join the CENTEXS Open Day on June 8.

Also present were CENTEXS Digital deputy director, Dayang Hanani Abang Ibrahim and CENTEXS general manager Mohamad Shahren Mohamad Yusri.
