MIRI: The Sarawak government played a crucial role in repatriating the late Senate President Datuk Mutang Tagal from Azerbaijan after he fell suddenly ill, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has disclosed.
“After learning of Datuk Mutang Tagal’s sudden illness in Baku, Azerbaijan, his family wanted to bring him back to Malaysia for medical care. The Sarawak government quickly organised his return.
“We decided to dispatch a jet ambulance to transport the late Mutang Tagal to Malaysia.
“The Azerbaijani government and its president also extended their support by offering airplanes,” he told reporters after paying his last respects to the late Mutang at the BEM Church, Jalan Airport here on Sunday.
He added that recognising the urgency, the Sarawak government worked with the Azerbaijani authorities, using both the jet ambulance and the presidential aircraft to ensure the late Mutang’s swift return.
“Despite the logistical challenges involved in coordinating international medical transport, the joint efforts of the Sarawak and Azerbaijani government successfully facilitated his return,” he said.
