KUCHING: The state government will work with industry players, universities as well as government agencies on the fishery research to provide better economic income for the people.

Petra Jaya incumbent Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said this was one of the government focuses to provide better income for the people through a strategic approach with various government agencies and many others.

According to him, through the introduction of new technology, it would help to improve the production of fish in the inland fish breeding farm in the state, and also to export the product.

“We are looking at a way to connect with all relevant research institutes, universities and ministries to find a method to produce our own fish fries as well as fish food, which we are currently depending on import products.

“This is where our focus is and the research outcome will be handed over to the fishery entrepreneurs in order to expand their income, so that they will not solely rely on fishes breeding only,” said Fadillah who is also the Works Minister to the reporters after releasing 2,000 Tilapia fries at Kampung Paroh Fishery Farm here yesterday.

On another matter, Fadillah said he is interested to revive the Samariang Agriculture Research Institute and he proposed the state government to form a team to revive the institute, specifically in the fishery field.
