KUCHING: Celebrating festivities together with communities of various backgrounds shows that Sarawak is a united and harmonious state.

Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said that Sarawakians have no problems celebrating seasonal festivities together.

He said that festivals such as Hari Raya and Gawai Dayak have always brought people together regardless of race, religion and culture.

“As we all know, our people here have evolved and appreciate things that can bring people together.

“Nowadays, we have mixed marriages. Malays, Dayaks, Chinese and others mingle together thus we have a lot to celebrate together.

“So this shows that we have no problem at all in our melting pot community and that is the good thing,” he said.

He was officiating at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri and pre-Gawai Dayak celebration held at SK Rakyat here on Saturday night.

The assemblyman praised the Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) for organising the event and bringing people to celebrate the festivities together.

“This ceremony is also a lesson to us all that no matter who you are from different races and religions, we always come together without any problems, unlike those on the other side.

“So be proud of what has become in our community here, especially in the Satok area,” he said.
