KANOWIT: Acting on information received, a joint enforcement team comprising officers from the Marine Police, Forest Department and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) was quickly put together and dispatched to Ulu Sg. Tuah near hear yesterday.
In the subsequent raid, a lorry laden with logs, a tractor and 336 logs were detained and handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
According to a press statement issued by SFC, the joint operation near Kanowit was triggered by a tip-off received by the corporation.
“The logs were suspected to be illegally extracted because of the absence of official markings. Moreover, the timber licence issued for the area concerned had expired last year,” says the SFC statement.
A police report on the case had also been made at the Sibu Jaya Police Station.
