KUCHING: A joint patrol operation by Malaysian army (TDM) and Indonesian National Army (TNI-AD) has foiled a smuggling attempt near the Military Joint Post (GABMA) in Tebedu today (Sept 7).

The operation was launched after receiving information from local residents about suspicious activity involving the unloading of goods near an illegal route.

“Acting on the tip-off, TDM and TNI-AD personnel conducted a patrol of the area and discovered several black plastic bags scattered along the illegal route and under trees,” said TDM in a statement.

The bags contained various controlled grocery items, including 37 boxes of Allana-brand meat, 72 packets of PRAI-brand sugar, and 10 sacks of local Super White-brand rice.

No prohibited or dangerous items were found in the area.

The seized goods were estimated to be worth RM10,402.60. A police report was lodged and the confiscated items were handed over to the Customs Department for further action.

Major General Datuk Mohamed Fauzi Kamis, Commander of the 1st Division Infantry, said the Army would continue to strengthen border controls to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty from illegal immigrants, smuggling activities, and cross-border crimes.
