MALAYSIA today celebrates National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) in appreciation of the service of journalists in Malaysia.
In conjunction with Hawana, New Sarawak Tribune spoke to a few youth who were interested in pursuing a career in journalism.
RAMENA SAROJA, 24
(Research masters student)
I’m interested in journalism because I enjoy learning new things in life. I believe that journalism provides a wealth of knowledge due to the breadth of the work. At the same time, I enjoy talking to people. I hope to inspire people to live their lives and see the world in new ways.
AHMAD HELMI, 23
(Communication student)
I’m interested in journalism because I want to improve my communication skills. Because I am pursuing the road of corporate relations as advised by my academic advisor, I want to start with journalism.
AINA SYAHIRAH, 24
(Student)
I am interested in journalism because I want to improve our writing skills and produce good news for readers. Good writing skills may attract more readers to read newspaper articles. Journalists can also become professional writers. Because the work scope is huge, we can be more than just news writers. We can become authors, academicians and take up other jobs that are related to writing. Journalism is a good career for people who are interested in writing.
NUR ATIQAH UMAIRAH, 21
(Student)
I’m interested in journalism because I want to have more confidence in chatting with or communicating with people of all ages. As a journalist, I should be able to play with words and write an error-free, grammatically correct and brief article with factual materials that piques the readers’ attention.
