KUCHING: Members of Federation Sarawak Journalist Associations (FSJA) visited Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Premier’s office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya on Wednesday (June 22).
Led by its president Andy Jong Wan Joon together with the main sponsors for Kenyalang Journalism Awards (KJA) 2022 namely Shell, PETRONAS and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), the purpose of the visit was to invite Abang Johari to officiate at and present the Premier of Sarawak Award in conjunction with KJA 2022 that is scheduled to held on December 9 at Imperial Hotel, Miri.
Andy, in a statement shared that the submission for KJA 2022 will open on July 1 and closes on September 9. Items to be submitted for the awards are those published between September 1, 2021 and August 31 this year.
“This year, our fellow organisers had decided to use the submission method through an online form for participants who would like to submit a soft copy through cloud storage.
“Participants also can submit hard copies through direct post to the address of Malaysian Press Institute. The online forms are available through MPI’s website starting this July 1,” he said.
A total of 11 categories will be contested in this year’s KJA comprising Community Journalism Well-being Award, Sustainability Report Award, Business and Economy Report Award, Journalism Award (Feature and News Writing), News Report Award, Sport News Award, Digital Economy Award, Broadcast Journalism Award, Photo Journalism Award and Photo Essay Award, alongside Premier of Sarawak Award which offer cash prizes totalling RM250,000.
During the visit, Abang Johari also conveyed a cheque of RM100,000 to FSJA from Sarawak state government which has been the main sponsor since 2015.
Apart from that, Shell, PETRONAS and SEB each contributed RM50,000 for the prestigious event.
Also present during the visit were Shell senior manager Government Relations Jonathan Jolly, media relation manager from PETRONAS Sarawak Johannes Ridu, manager of corporate communication from SEB Peing Tajang, deputy president of FJSA cum advisor of Kuching Division Journalist Association (KDJA) Jacqueline Radoi David alongside other representatives from FSJA, Shell, PETRONAS Sarawak and SEB.
