KUCHING: The Sarawak Road and Transport Department (JPJ) through their Ops Pengarah recently inspected 423 vehicles resulting in the issuance of 148 non-compliance notices for various offences.

The operation saw the participation of 31 officers and personnel whose primary objective was to identify and address the illegal installation of High-intensity Discharge (HID) lights or xenon gas lights without filaments, accompanied by two Ballast units installed without proper authorisation under Rule 94 C&U 1959.

These unauthorised retrofitted lights posed significant hazards by causing glare and visual disturbances to other drivers, especially during rainy conditions.

The operation held at Kuching-Serian road also resulted in four vehicles, comprising two motorcycles and two motorcars, seized due to its expired vehicle licenses exceeding one year.

“The strategic operation aimed not only to enforce compliance with road regulations but also to ensure that vehicles on the road are safe for all users, particularly during the Gawai festive season.

“JPJ issued JPJ(P)22 summons notices and Vehicle Detention Notices under section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987,” it said on its Facebook post.

“By targeting a range of offences, JPJ hopes to raise awareness about road safety and reduce the risk of accidents and fatalities,” it added.

JPJ encourages the public to report traffic complaints through the e-Aduan @jpj application or via http://jpj.spab.gov.my, providing detailed information for swift action.
