KUCHING: Jr. Stanly Jalip from ‘Jr Cycling Academy/88bikers’ cycled his way to gold in the ‘Downhill Individual Men Master’ category in the ‘Siol Mountain Bike Challenge 2022’ on Saturday (Aug 27).

He rode his way to victory with a record of 1 minute 35 seconds, 26 seconds ahead of Then Tze Kim from ‘Gravity Monkey’ (2 minutes 1 second) and 28 seconds ahead of Jack Then from ‘Solo’ (2 minutes 3 seconds).

With his victory, Jr. Stanly Jalip went home with the gold medal and RM1,500 richer while Then Tze Kim walked away with silver medal and RM1,000. Jack Then took the bronze medal plus RM600 cash prize.

In another sub-category of the day, which was the ‘Cross Country Eliminator Men Open’, Muaz Abdul Rahim from ‘Orbit Cycle United’ came out top ahead of his teammate Sheikh Muhammad Harith Sheikh Mohd Noh and Muhammad Aidil Taufid Afendi from ‘Burgeon Depedal’.

This annual competition was brought back for the first time in two years as it was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia in the past couple of years.

Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) is the organiser of this competition, in collaboration with the Malaysian National Cycling Federation and Sarawak Cycling Association, with its main sponsor being Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts. It was held from August 26 to 28 at the Siol MTB Track, Bukit Siol here.

Also present during the competition were Deputy Minister of Utility Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, DBKU Mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan and Sarawak Cycling Association president Datuk Benjamin Hasbie.
