JULAU: The district’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has handed over 27 homemade and unlicensed rifles to the Julau Armament Division for disposal.
These firearms seized over a span of 27 years, from 1995 to 2022, were associated with 27 separate investigation cases under the Arms Act 1960 and the Penal Code.
Julau police chief DSP Andam Sulin Brayun said all of the cases have been successfully resolved, and the individuals involved have been charged in court.
“We received a court order instructing us to dispose of these firearms, and the matter has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor for police disposal.
“As such, the public, especially in Julau and Pakan districts, is advised not to possess homemade and unlicensed firearms,” he said.
He added that possession of such weapons could lead to individuals being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, which carries up to seven years imprisonment or up to RM10,000 fine, or both, upon conviction.
Andam emphasised that the police will not compromise with any party found guilty of this offence.
Should the community has any information related to the ownership of homemade and unlicensed firearms, they can channel them to Julau police.
