KUCHING: Julau MP Larry Sng is one of the first Dewan Rakyat members in Sarawak to distribute food baskets to residents in the parliamentary constituency under the National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package (Pemulih).
Sng when contacted today (July 7) told Bernama that a total of 9,100 families will receive the aid which will be distributed starting tomorrow (July 8).
“We have several packing and receiving centres and we expect the distribution process to be completed in four days,” he said.
Meanwhile, Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Karim said the assistance would be given to those who really need it.
She said the priority groups were single mothers, the elderly and persons with disabilities (PwD) and the community leaders had been asked to submit a list of eligible recipients from their respective villages and longhouses.
Rohani said an allocation of RM300,000 would be divided among three state constituencies, namely Beting Maro, Lingga and Sebuyau, which would each receive RM100,000.
She said several villages and longhouses in the areas had been placed under the Enhanced movement control order (EMCO).
“With an allocation of RM300,000 to all government and opposition MPs for the implementation of the food basket assistance programme plus the existing allocation from the Sarawak government’s food basket programme, more people will receive aid,” she said. – Bernama
