KUCHING: The Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Amar Dato’ Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang yesterday launched the Women’s Heart Day at the Spring Mall here.
The theme of the event, jointly organised by the Sarawak Heart Foundation and the Sarawak Heart Centre, was “With a Healthy Heart, the Beat Goes On”. It was held from 10am to 5pm.
Various activities including free health screening and self breast examinations and a children’s colouring contest were held.
Organising Chairperson, Pauline Kon said that heart disease could be prevented.
“The more a woman knows about heart disease, the better chance she has of beating it.
“Caring for your heart through a healthy diet and regular physical activity is the secret weapon to preventing heart disease.
“It’s amazing how much physical activities can benefit our hearts. There are so many types of physical activities that can improve your cholesterol levels, lower your blood pressure and simply make you feel good,” she pointed out during her welcoming address.
There were also line dances, zumba performances and a yoga session.
Women’s Heart Day or Wear Red Day as it is also known, was organised to raise awareness of heart disease among women and promote better heart health among women of all ages.
Also present were Minister for Local Government, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Assistant Minister for Science Research and Biotechnology, Dr Annuar Rapaee and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) Women’s Wing chief, Tan Sri Dato Sri Empiang Jabu.
