KUCHING: A local youth was fined RM2,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here today for involvement in drug abuse activities.
Mohd Shafiee, 30, pleaded guilty to the charge read out by an interpreter before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali who sentenced the accused to four months in jail if he failed to pay the fine.
In addition, the accused was also placed under police surveillance for two years after serving his sentence.
According to the charge, he was accused of injecting illicit drugs such as methamphetamine and amphetamine into his body.
He committed the act at a house at Kampung Haji Baki, Jalan Batu Kitang, at about 3.40 pm, July 30, 2020.
He was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234) and sentenced under Section 15 of the same act which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for a maximum of two years.
