KUCHING: Despite the scorching hot weather, fans of South Korean K-pop star Rain (Jung Ji-Hoon) showed unwavering enthusiasm as they gathered as early as 10am at the Old Courthouse Courtyard to catch a glimpse of the singer-songwriter, actor and music producer, on Friday (Aug 4).
Arriving at about 4pm, he was greeted by a sea of enthusiastic fans chanting “We Love Rain”.
During the meet-and-greet, he expressed his delight at visiting Kuching for the first time, describing the city as ‘heaven’ with its delicious food and beautiful scenery. He shared that he enjoyed eating Sarawak Laksa and other delicacies upon his arrival.
To the delight of the fans, he expressed the phrase ‘Saya sayang kamu’ (I love you), touching the hearts of fangirls and fanboys alike.
One fan, Marilyn, who has been a long-time supporter of Rain since 2004, travelled all the way from Singapore to meet the superstar. She expressed how meaningful Rain’s presence in Kuching is for the fans.
“I hope he enjoys the hospitality of the city. I’ve followed his acting journey, from Full House to his latest drama, Ghost Doctor.
“To finally meet him in person is very meaningful to us because he came all the way from Korea to here.”
She also expressed hope that the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts will continue to expose Sarawakians to international talents.
Two friends, Eva and Kyeira, aged 16, were equally ecstatic to meet their favourite actor. Kyeira, a fan of K-pop since 2017, expressed her excitement in meeting one of the biggest names in South Korea. “I like his drama a lot, especially the latest one which is Ghost Doctor.”
Rain was invited as this year’s Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) 2023 Star Celebrity.
