KABONG: Victims whose 10 premises which were destroyed in a fire last week had received a donation from Saratok MP.

A total of RM50,000 was handed over by Datuk Ali Biju who went to visit them near the scene yesterday.

In his Facebook statement, Ali conveyed his sympathy to the families of the victims and apologised for not being able to rush to Saratok on the day of the incident due to official matters in Putrajaya.

However, he said, he was kept abreast on the incident through the Service Centre.

The row of wooden shop houses was razed to the ground at predawn on June 29.

Luckily, all residents living in the shops managed to escape unharmed.

The wooden shop is over 100 years old and has many memories and nostalgia among the local community.

To ease the burden suffered by the fire victims, the MP has agreed to provide RM5,000 for each premises.
