TATAU: A total of 10 recipients, representing Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) in the Kakus State Legislative Assembly (DUN) area, have received allocations amounting to RM112,000 through the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant.
The cheque presentation was officiated by Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, who is also the Kakus assemblyman, during a brief ceremony at the Kakus DUN Service Centre on Thursday (Sept 5).
In addition to the grants, educational incentive awards were presented to five students who have successfully pursued higher education at public institutions of higher learning (IPTA).
In his speech, Sikie noted the importance of transparent and wise management of the MRP allocations by the JKKK.
He reminded the recipients that the grants approved by the Sarawak government are intended to benefit the local community, particularly by assisting the JKKK in implementing development projects, such as repairs and activities in their respective longhouses.
He also mentioned that allocations to the JKKK are distributed in stages due to the extensive coverage of the Kakus constituency, which includes more than 400 longhouses across the Mukah, Selangau and Tatau districts.
This cheque presentation event is part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rural development and raise awareness of the importance of education among the local community.
